Heungkong Psychology Classes Start “on the cloud” as Spring Comes!

2020-03-31

During the pandemic prevention and control, the Heungkong Charitable Foundation conducted a questionnaire survey on “Children education and psychological conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic”, and according to the findings from over 3,000 children in rural areas, there are few children in rural areas requiring crisis intervention or psychological consultation as a result of the pandemic, however, many of them are in need of psychological company instead of psychological consultation due to reasons such as staying at home for no schooling, Internet addiction, no interest in study and poor parent-child relationship.

Therefore, the Heungkong Charitable Foundation launched China's first one-to-one online psychological company course during the pandemic, which integrates psychological volunteer resources to carry out the first Heungkong Cloud-based Soul Company program, providing one-to-one online psychological company services to primary school students in rural areas. Different from existing recorded online classes, the Cloud-based Soul Company program emphasizes on real psychological communication and interaction between teachers and students by reading psychological cartoon books together and taking psychological mini-courses, which cover emotions, interpersonal or family relationship perplexes, personal growth and exploration needs, and psychology issues during the pandemic.

Immediately after release of the Heungkong Cloud-based Soul Company program, a lot of psychological volunteers, including psychologists, first-line psychology teachers and university students majoring in psychology/social work, signed up for the program. After data screening and interviews over the phone, we finally selected 27 volunteers as the psychology teachers for the first Heungkong Cloud-based Soul Company program.

Also, psychological needs of children can’t be ignored, and we kept receiving applications for soul company from parents all over the country. To better understand real situations of children, we completed substantial interviews and case collection through telephone and WeChat.

Despite of huge amount of preparations required in the early stage of the program, we managed to proceed in an orderly manner and completed matching of psychological volunteers and children and online training for psychological volunteers. On this Friday, a kid left over in Hubei province due to the pandemic met a Heungkong psychological teacher online for the first time.

Neither the pandemic nor the distance can prevent us from meeting. May each psychological teacher moisturize the heart land of children as warm spring breeze, and our story goes on.
